As I alluded to in my last post, getting timber suitable for the home handy man is a bit tough. Today I bought what is hopefully enough timber to construct about half of the frames, but it is rough sawn.
I took my purchase around the corner to a cabinet maker who wanted nearly as much again to face and thickness the timber. In the end I got him to face the boards, and I have resigned myself to the fact that at a minimum I am going to have to buy a thicknesser, but probably a jointer too. Ouch!!
To cheer myself up I dragged the patterns out again and started looking at the construction of the transom, something I have not studied in detail before. I can see why others have struggled with it. It is going to take some serious C&C time studying this assembly before I actually cut anything.
But at least the fun has really started.
