Another catch up post

So the actual boat still hasn't progressed a lot, unfortunately a bathroom rebuild and a new job is taking all my time at present.

  • A few more deck battens have been fitted
  • Work has begun on the carlings for the engine hatch
  • A few more lengths of batten material have been produced, still needing final finishing

The engine has also progressed

Exhaust headers have been procured, in the end I had to go for the expensive stainless ones as they are the only ones that will fit.  The aluminium log style ones interfere with the stringers.  So they have arrived and I have got one of them bolted on.  They have port for the oxygen sensors, but for the right hand one this interferes with the air inlet box.  Looks like it wont be too bigger a problem.  They look very flash.  I'll post a photo once I get the other one bolted on.

The transmission finally arrived.  The freight company managed to loose it twice.   It appears to be the right thing and in good condition.  I have had it bolted up to the engine but its currently sitting on the floor.

The mount kit from Michigan Motorz for the transmission also arrived.  A very comprehensive kit.  Contains the oil cooler and hoses, and all the bolts to bolt the transmission up to the engine, and the mounts to bolt the transmission to the stingers.  There is also a shift cable connector, a reverse switch and a temperature switch.  Unfortunately my transmission doesn't have the ports for either.

I ordered a heat exchanger, unfortunately then the headers plan changed and so the heat exchanger I have isn't the ideal solution but will still work.  It has arrived and is much bigger and heavier than I expected.  At present I am trying to figure out the best place to mount it.

I also got lucky on E-bay and got a brand new raw water pump for a good price.  This has arrived and I have had fitted to it the power steering pump pulley.  I got this done by a machine shop close to work.  I have also designed up a mounting bracket and I am currently waiting for that to get laser cut.  I should arrive in time to allow fitting this weekend.  Once this is fitted I can do final measurements and get a suitable sized fan belt.

II have also procured a suitable flywheel.  Its off another Toyota engine, all I had to do to make it fit is slot the bolt holes a bit.  It is located on a shaft that comes out of the crank so slotting doesn't affect the fit.

I'll tidyup and take some photos to post in the weekend.
